Money Insects

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.OA.A.1: Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds (e.g., claps), acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations.

Targeted Needs of Student:
Adding money, life skills, representing value of money in abstract ways, understanding the different value of money

Goal:
Providing students with practice adding coins.

Materials Needed:


  1. Pennies,  Nickels, Dimes, and Quarters
  2. Coin Caterpillar sheet
  3. Glue
  4. Markers





Explanation/Summary:
Students will be given pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. They will line them up as a caterpillar and then add how much the amount is worth. Each student will have a different amount and a different length of their caterpillar to show that money can be shown many different ways.
