Common Core Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.A.1 Measure the length of an
object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks,
meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.A.3 Estimate lengths using
units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.A.4 Measure to determine how
much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in
terms of a standard length unit.
Targeted Needs of Student:
Measuring
objects, comparing data, predicting before doing experiments, charting data.
Goal:
Providing
students with practice measuring using a ruler
Materials Needed:
1. At least one gummy worm per
student
2. Rulers
3. Writing utensils
4. Worksheets
Explanation/Summary:
Students
will measure gummy worms using a ruler before and after stretching them. Before
measuring the gummy worms they will also make a prediction of how long the gummy
worms are. Then, they will write down the measurements on the chart that is
included on the worksheet.
