and Proof
Geometry Communication
Measurement Representation
Data Analysis,
Statistics, and Probability Connections
Common Core Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.G.B.4: Analyze and compare two-
and three-dimensional shapes, in different sizes and orientations, using
informal language to describe their similarities, differences, parts (e.g.,
number of sides and vertices/"corners") and other attributes (e.g.,
having sides of equal length).
Targeted Needs of Student:
Comparing and contrasting
3D shapes, identifying characteristics of 3D shapes, speaking about math, recognizing
3D shapes in students’ environments
Goal:
Understanding
the characteristics of 3D shapes and using language to describe these 3D shapes
Materials Needed:
- Paper lunch bags
- 3D objects from home
- Marker
Explanation/Summary:
Students will
be given a 3D shape to find at home. They will put their 3D solid into a lunch
bag and write three clues or characteristics of the 3D shape for their
classmates to guess.
