Counting Painting Chips

Common Core Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.1 Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.3 Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects)

Targeted Needs of Student:
Practicing addition, recognizing numbers, representing numbers between 0-20

Goal:
Providing students with practice counting.

Materials Needed:


1.      Paint chips
2.      Sharpie to make the dots
3.      Clothes pins
4.      Ring to connect the paint chips
5.      Hole punch to string the chips together



Explanation/Summary:
Students will count the number of dots on the top of the paint chip and then they place a clothes pin on the number that is correct. There will be at least 10 paint chips on one ring so that students can practice counting at their desks during free time, centers, or individual work.
