Number Playdough Mats with Tens Frames

Common Core Standards:
CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.A.1 Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.A.3 Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects)

Targeted Needs of Student:
Writing numbers, number recognition, tactile skill development, fine motor skills

Goal:
Recognize numbers, group objects in pairs of ten, count to 20

Materials Needed:
1.      Playdough
2.       Laminated sheets with tens frames
3.       A number of objects
4.       A number on them that all correspond. (For instance, two tens frames, 14 police cars, and the number 14.)

Explanation/Summary:
Students will use these number mats during math centers or individual work. First, they will count the objects and then represent the number of objects on the tens frames with balls of playdough. Then, they will make the number out of playdough and they will place the number they made over the number on the mat.
