Know
relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m,
cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement,
express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record
measurement equivalents in a two-column table. For example, know that 1 ft is 12 times as long as 1 in. Express the
length of a 4 ft snake as 48 in. Generate a conversion table for feet and
inches listing the number pairs (1, 12), (2, 24), (3, 36), ...
Targeted Needs of Student:
Developing
motor skills (catching and throwing the ball), collecting data, comparing data,
keeping time, use of materials such as a stopwatch
Goal:
Collecting
data and comparing data
Materials Needed:
1. Stopwatch
2. Soft ball (can be a stress
reliever ball)
3. Data sheet
Explanation/Summary:
During
centers, individual work, or when students come into the classroom they will
throw a ball up in the air and record how many times they can catch the ball in
three minutes. Students will use a stopwatch to monitor their time. After the
entire class has completed the activity, the class will discuss the data
together.
