Measurement Hunt

Common Core Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.A.1: Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.

Targeted Needs of Student:
Estimating lengths, measuring lengths, hunting for different objects, kinesthetically practicing measuring skills, developing measurement sense

Goal:
To provide students with an opportunity to develop measurement sense through a scavenger hunt

Materials Needed:


1.      Ruler
2.      Worksheet
3.      Writing Utensils
4.      Clipboards



Explanation/Summary:
Students will use a ruler to walk around the classroom and measure things. They will have a list of things to find including something that is as long as an inch, a centimeter, 6 inches, a foot, a yard, etc. Then they will write what they found and compare with a partner.
