Targeted Needs of Student:
Students having trouble adding multiple digit numbers, adding 2 or more multiple digit numbers, student having trouble with carrying numbers in two digit addition

Goal:
Adding large numbers without using a calculator

Materials Needed:

1.      Paper
2.      Writing utensils

Explanation/Summary:
Write the addition problem vertically so the place values are vertically lined up. Draw a line dividing each place value into its own column all the way down into the answer section. In the answer portion draw a square around where the answer will be written, and then draw a diagonal line in each column so it starts at the bottom left corner and goes to the top right corner. Working right to left add each column individually putting the tens in the top triangle and the ones in the bottom triangle (if no tens then just write a zero). After adding each column vertically, in the answer portion add the numbers diagonally to get final answer working right to left. See picture below for clarification.
