Common Core Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.A.4: Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit.

Targeted Needs of Student:
Ordering lengths by largest to shortest, connecting color knowledge to ordering numbers, using inches to measure and cut paper

Goal:
Visually seeing how different lengths are longer and shorter

Materials Needed:

1.      Strips of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple construction paper
2.      Scissors
3.      Stapler
4.      Pencil
5.      Ruler

Explanation/Summary:
Students will be given strips of each color from ROY G BIV that are all the same length. On the board, the teacher will have 7 lengths (labeled by color) as shown below. They will measure out each length for each color and then show on their desk what order they need to be in. Then, the teacher will come around and staple the strips together to show that some strips are longer than others.
