CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.D.7: Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false. For example, which of the following equations are true and which are false? 6 = 6, 7 = 8 - 1, 5 + 2 = 2 + 5, 4 + 1 = 5 + 2.

Targeted Needs of Student:
Reasoning through equations, understanding the meaning of the equal sign, proving if an equation is correct, adding and subtracting, communicating ideas, using manipulatives to prove/disprove equations

Goal:
To challenge students to prove or disprove an equation

Materials Needed:


1.      Worksheet for each student
2.      Orange and green crayons
3.      Manipulatives to prove/disprove equations





Explanation/Summary:
The teacher will give each student a worksheet. Students will look at each equation on the pumpkin and determine if the equation is true or false. If the pumpkin is true, they will color it orange and if it false, they will color the pumpkin green.
