Math Squares

Common Core Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NBT.A.3: Multiply one-digit whole numbers by multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 (e.g., 9 × 80, 5 × 60) using strategies based on place value and properties of operations.

Targeted Needs of Student:
Practicing operations in a different format, using multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction together, introducing order of operations

Goal:
To provide students with a way of completing problems in a different format.

Materials Needed:


  1. White board or paper with sheet protectors
  2. Expo markers
  3. Writing utensils
  4. Scratch paper




Explanation/Summary:
Students will perform the operations of each of the squares starting from the top left and ending in the bottom right. They will do the operation that leads them to the next square. These numbers can be changed for different students and this can be done using post it notes in a folder for individual or early bird work.
