Grade Level(s):  6th Grade

Content Area:                                                                        Process Area:
Numbers and Operations                                           Problem-Solving
Algebra                                                           Reasoning and Proof
Geometry                                                                    Communication
Measurement                                                             Representation

Common Core Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NBT.B.7: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.

Targeted Needs of Student:
Connecting understanding of the power of ten to decimals, kinesthetic way to show moving decimal, introducing moving the decimal, working with place value

Goal:
Visually seeing the impact of multiplying and dividing by ten regarding decimals.

Materials Needed:

1.      Sentence Strips
2.      Smaller strips of paper
3.      Marker
4.      Scissors

Explanation/Summary:
